The supply of electricity has been restored in areas of the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta, however the damage that caused the load loss of the EAC continues to exist and the crews are making efforts to solve the problem, Hara Koussiappa, press representative of the System Operator, told KYPE Cyprus Transport (DSMK).

He explained that "around 03:56 in the morning today, Monday, September 30, there was a breakdown in Transmission System equipment at the Decelia substation, which resulted in the protection systems operating to isolate the breakdown."

He added that "due to the damage, which resulted in the loss of consumer load of approximately 170 MW, there was an interruption in the supply of electricity to consumers supplied by the transmission substations of the wider Famagusta area, i.e. Dekelia, Pyla and Athienou. Still, due to the failure, all the production machines of the Dekelia station were disconnected, as a result of which the underfrequency protection system worked and other areas were also cut off."

As said Ms. Kushiyappa "the specific damage was repaired within an hour, that is until five in the morning and electricity was restored in all areas. However, after the restoration, damage occurred again in the same section, possibly due to increased humidity."

The fault, he continued, “was restored within half an hour, meaning the fault was isolated and the technicians are working to fix it. However, at the time the failure occurred, there were hundreds of other events recorded in the system, which must be studied in the chronological order in which they occurred, conclusions drawn, appropriate reports prepared and the necessary measures taken, so that it does not happen again ».

Ms. continued the event. Kushiappa "that the damage is probably due to the increased humidity, is reinforced by the fact that similar problems were also encountered in the occupied territories".
