OP. AMMOCHOSTOU: Integration of Ukrainian students into the education system - Greek language courses

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN) is making arrangements for the smooth integration of Ukrainian students into the Cypriot education system for the 2022-2023 school year.

In a statement, he informs that in the context of the implementation of Decision 382 / 2022 of the European Council of March 4, 2022, to provide temporary protection to displaced persons from Ukraine, as well as the Decision of the Council of Ministers dated August 22, 2022, he welcomes and supports displaced schoolchildren from Ukraine.

He notes that all the necessary information regarding the study of Ukrainian students for the school year 2022-2023, related forms, as well as announcements about evening Greek classes are posted, in Greek and Ukrainian, on the website for Ukrainian refugees in website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (http://www.moec.gov.cy/en/ukrainian_refugees.html).

In the meantime, the Service of State Training Institutes (STIs) of the Ministry of Education informs all interested parties that it has planned the operation of a free Greek language learning program for Ukrainian refugees who have taken refuge in Cyprus due to the war situation in Ukraine and are under temporary protection status, for the school year 2022-2023.

The project is co-financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. As part of the program, Ukrainian refugees, minors and adults, are exempt from all tuition fees, including the registration fee of 10 Euros.

The courses will be held in one KIE per province. Nicosia District: KIE Aglantzias (Aglantzias High School, Tel.: 22305215), Limassol District: KIE Limassol (Laniteo Lykeio, Tel.: 25305245), Larnaca District: KIE Larnaka (Pangyprio Lykeio, Tel.: 24304164), Paphos District: KIE Paphos (Lykeio Α Ethnarchi Makariou III, Tel.: 26306284) and Famagusta District: KIE Paralimniou (Lykeio Paralimniou, Tel.: 23820978).

As mentioned, in the framework of the operation of the program, separate departments will be created for minors and for adult Ukrainians, refugees, respecting the minimum and maximum numbers of students for the creation of departments in KIE.

The operating hours of the said departments will be in the afternoon and will be determined by the addresses of the above KIEs, depending on the availability of the facilities and so as to ensure the orderly operation of each KIE.

Therefore, all interested parties are invited to register at one of the CIEs mentioned above from September 12 – 23, 2022, from 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. When registering, interested parties should present to the CIE an official document from the Republic of Cyprus proving that they are Ukrainian refugees who have taken refuge in Cyprus due to the war situation in Ukraine and are under temporary protection, as well as proof of their identity.

For any clarification or information regarding registration, those interested can contact the KIEs that will operate in each province by phone.

For each department there will be 2 classes/meetings per week (Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday) in the afternoon. Each meeting will last two (2) teaching periods of 45 minutes.
