With two more councilors in relation to Sotira and Liopetri seems to have succeeded the Αγία Νάπα to claim the new consolidation scheme which is expected to emerge with the completion of the approval of the bill for local self-government, after the green light that was given yesterday by the plenary session of the Parliament to extend the term of the existing Mayors and Municipal Councilors and Presidents and Members Community Councils nationwide.
Η Αγία Νάπα, as it seems, managed after the struggles what he was asking from the Ministry of Interior, to have "the upper hand", ie the weighted vote and the increase of its Municipal Councilors by two, in relation to Sotira and Liopetri in the new local government scheme that is expected to be created by merging with Liopetri and Sotira.
This is provided for in the bill approved last April by the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs. In the bill the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Pegeias will be represented by two municipal councilors more than they are entitled proportionally, due to financial strength. This decision provided for the creation three (3) municipalities in the free Province of Famagusta as follows:
Municipality of Ayia Napa: The newly established Municipality of Ayia Napa, which will result from the merger of Ayia Napa of Sotira and Liopetri, based in Ayia Napa.
Municipality of Deryneia: The newly established Municipality of Deryneia will result from the merger of Deryneia, Frenaros and Acheritos.
Municipality of Paralimni: The Municipality of Paralimni remains intact without the Community merging with any other Municipality.
They remain communities Avgorou and Achna: The communities of Avgoros and Achnas are transformed into a complex of communities.
The above proposal was voted by AKEL, the COME M and EDEK.
Besides, this scenario seems to be gradually supported by DISY, since journalistic circles interpret today's visit of the President of the Democratic Alarm, Mr. Averof Neophytou to Ayia Napa, Sotira and Liopetri, as support of the above scenarios.
