A suspect wanted in connection with an ongoing case of theft by trick, of a large amount of money, committed last Wednesday, August 24, in Limassol, was located and arrested by members of the Police. Evidence also emerged against the suspect for the commission of a second theft by trick, of a large sum of money, committed on the same day, in the free city of Famagusta, for which the Police are looking for a second suspect.
The photos of the two wanted suspects were released by the Police, with the aim of gathering information that could lead to their identification. One of the two suspects was located today, in the area of Ledras Street, in Nicosia, by members of the Police, who proceeded to arrest him, with a court warrant. This is a 46-year-old man, who was taken into custody for the purposes of investigating the two theft cases.
According to the data under investigation, last Wednesday, the 46-year-old went to a store in Limassol, where he asked an employee to exchange an amount of 10,000 US dollars into EUROS. The suspect handed the store employee a bundle of 99 $100 bills and two $50 bills. During the process of counting the money, the suspect asked for his money back in order to check it again. After tricking the store employee, the suspect gave him another wad of money, consisting of 98 one-dollar bills and two $50 bills, making a profit on top of the 9,500 EUROS the employee gave him in exchange for the dollars.
On the same day, a second suspicious man went to a shop in the free area of Famagusta, where he asked an employee to exchange an amount of 5,500 US dollars into euros, handing him a bundle of money, which consisted of 54 100 and two 50 bills. dollars. During the process of counting the money, the suspect asked the clerk for his money back in order to double check. The suspect then, without being noticed, replaced the $5,500 bundle he had originally given the employee with another bundle consisting of 54 one-dollar bills and two $50 bills. Holding the bundle of 5,500 dollars, the suspect made a profit of about 4,500 euros, which was given to him in exchange for the dollars by the employee at the store.
As part of the investigation of the second case of theft committed in Famagusta, evidence emerged against the 46-year-old suspect who had gone to the store in Limassol and with the same trick managed to steal the sum of approximately 9,500 euros. Upon his detection today in Nicosia, he was arrested on a warrant and taken into custody, with the Police still looking for the second suspect.
