For another winter, the hotel units that are in operation are counted on the fingers. Occupancy in hotels in the province of Famagusta is quite low today.
According to the President of PASYXE Famagusta Panagiotis Constantinou, until the end of November 15 hotels were in operation, while today they have decreased to around 9.
Mr. Constantinou, speaking to Famagusta News, said that the Christmas and New Year period is a small "injection" for hotels. "We expect that there will be traffic from local and foreign tourists, but the good occupancy will last for a short period of time, it is not expected to continue in January," he added.
It is pointed out that the majority of tourists present today are from England and Scandinavian countries such as Poland and Germany.
Regarding the new tourist season, there is optimism on the part of the hoteliers with Mr. Constantinou stating "that for the new year the messages we had from London were positive. I want to believe that if no negative event occurs it will be a good year."
The first hotels will open in March and by the beginning of April almost all will have opened.
