Arrests in Famagusta and Larnaca for illegal migrant trafficking

The Police have arrested five persons for trafficking in illegal immigrants, following the arrival yesterday afternoon, in the province of Famagusta, of a boat in which 9 illegal immigrants were on board, as well as a boat that arrived in Larnaca in which 17 illegal immigrants were also on board.

In particular, during the examinations regarding the arrival of irregular immigrants in the province of Larnaca, testimony emerged against three persons, regarding the offenses of assisting third-country nationals to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally, with the intention and with the purpose of making a profit, of of illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and of transporting a person by sea in an unsafe or overloaded vessel.

Regarding the irregular immigrants who arrived in the province of Famagusta, two persons were arrested against whom they are being investigated for, among other crimes, assisting third country nationals to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The five arrested were taken into custody while the rest of the passengers of the two boats were taken to the Pournara Migrant Reception Center.

TAE Larnaca and TAE Famagusta continue the exams.
