Famagusta Province: 27-year-old sentenced to prison for illegal entry of 18 immigrants from Syria

The District Court of Famagusta yesterday imposed a prison sentence on a 27-year-old man who was found guilty after a trial of a case related to crimes committed during the arrival of a number of irregular immigrants in the Famagusta region last July.

Specifically, the District Court imposed a prison sentence of 24 months on the 27-year-old, for the following offences: Assisting the illegal entry of third-country nationals into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus as well as for violating the High Speed ​​Boats Law.

The said case concerned the arrival by boat in the area of ​​free Famagusta, in the afternoon of July 17, 2023, of 18 illegal immigrants, while according to the testimonies secured, the 27-year-old was the boat's navigator.

The case was investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
