The employees of OSEA decided to go on strike on Monday
The employees of the Famagusta District Transport Organization (OSEA) held an extraordinary meeting tonight at the organization's offices on the occasion of the agreement of the Ministry of Transport with another consortium on the issue of public transport in the Famagusta province.
At the meeting, the employees of the company expressed their fears about the employment status of the new consortium, as well as about the way it operates, while asking for the protection of their rights for the next ten years.
At the meeting it was decided that the employees of the company go on strike on Monday, January 27, 2020, but after the completion of the morning student itineraries which will be carried out normally. Then, they will go to Nicosia and will gather at 9:00 am. outside the building that houses the Administrative Court where on Wednesday the appeal of OSEA against the new consortium will be examined, while on Monday a similar request of the Intercity Buses will be examined. The gathering outside the Administrative Court will take place symbolically as a sign of support for their employers. In case the result of the decision of the Administrative Court on Monday is negative in the interest of OSEA and its employees, then the employees are responsible to take more dynamic measures, with an indefinite work stoppage.
According to Pavlos Barnabas, a representative of the company's employees, the main request of the staff is to secure their rights from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works but also from the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance for the next ten years, while requested and information on how the company operates and whether what has been made public to reduce the company's fleet is valid.
Mr. Barnabas also stressed that OSEA was set up not only by the owners but also by the employees themselves, as it consists of drivers from all over the province of Famagusta, making it a company that literally belongs to its province. He did not fail to emphasize that there were many problems from the first day of operation of the company and public transport which were solved jointly by owners and employees, but the employees never went on strike.
Finally, he called on the Court as well as the Ministry of Transport to make second thoughts on the award of bids and to appreciate the experience and support of the local community which is expressed through the work of the company and the employees of OSEA.
