A 24-month prison sentence was imposed today by the District Court of Famagusta on a 52-year-old man who was found guilty after a trial of helping third-country nationals to enter the Republic. The case concerned the arrival of a number of third-country nationals, by sea vessel, in the area of ​​Famagusta, last February.

More specifically, at noon on February 24, a crew of the Coastal and Maritime Police spotted and intercepted a small boat in the sea area of ​​free Famagusta, with 21 people on board. As it was established, it was 13 men, two women and six children, aged between two and ten years old, all third country nationals. They were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina.

According to testimonies obtained afterwards, the driver of the boat was the 52-year-old man, who was arrested by virtue of a court warrant.

The remaining 20 passengers of the boat, after completing the relevant procedures, were transferred to the "Pournara" hospitality center.

The case was investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
