District of Famagusta: Next week the decisions on compensations - The cost of damages

The Minister of the Interior, Nikos Nouris, announced the decisions of the Council of Ministers regarding the floods.

Mr. Nouris stated that a first assessment of the amount of damages has been made, but because there are specific procedures and because many objections have been submitted which are not of the same importance, they asked the Ministers of State to come back to the next session of the Cabinet with a detailed record and a specific proposal, especially regarding first homes, there will always be compensation based on specific criteria.

He also noted that responsibilities will be sought for bad urban planning and some are already underway and emphasized that this phenomenon had been occurring for decades.

The total cost of damages, a first estimate speaks of around 150 thousand in Larnaca, 30 thousand in Dromolaxia and there is still no estimate for Famagusta.
