The District Court of Famagusta issued today a six-day detention order against a 70-year-old man and his 61-year-old wife, to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding an investigated case of the discovery of a quantity of cannabis weighing 415 grams in their home in the province of Famagusta.
According to a statement from the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, "in the context of collecting and evaluating data, members of YKAN (Klimakio Famagusta) yesterday conducted an investigation based on a court warrant at the home of a 70-year-old man in the province of Famagusta. The 61-year-old wife of the 70-year-old man was also inside the house."
It is added that "during the investigation, a quantity of cannabis with a total weight of approximately 415 grams, a used tobacco syringe, a grinder with traces of plant matter, a medical syringe containing 1ml of cannabis oil were found in glass bottles and nylon bags, as well as and a precision scale.'
After the investigation, the suspects together with the evidence were taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta, where they admitted to possessing the quantity of cannabis and the remaining evidence. The investigators of the case have information that they supplied cannabis to other persons, but the two suspects deny this.
According to information, the 70-year-old man and the 61-year-old woman reported that they were growing drugs in pots, which were hidden outside, for their own use.
The 70-year-old and the 61-year-old were arrested and in the morning they were brought before the District Court of Famagusta which issued a detention order against them for six days.
The two individuals are being investigated for possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, possession and use of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a vessel specially made for the use of a Class B controlled drug, cultivation of cannabis plants and conspiracy to commit a felony.
