A meeting of the Management Team of the Deputy Ministry of Culture was held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the "George Seferis" Cultural Center in Ayia Napa, in the context of which a meeting was held with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, with the aim of discussing issues related to the responsibilities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, the Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, as well as executives and representatives of the Department of Antiquities, the Department of Contemporary Culture, the State Archives and the Cyprus Handicrafts Service.
During the meeting, issues related to the better utilization of cultural infrastructure, the strengthening of cooperation with the Local Government and the shaping of prospects for further cultural development were discussed.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa briefly presented the physiognomy of the new enlarged Ayia Napa Municipality, which includes Ayia Napa, Sotira, Liopetri, Avgorou and Achna, emphasizing that the reform of the Local Government creates new possibilities for unified planning, substantial cooperation and better utilization of cultural heritage and modern cultural creation.
The presentation included a general reference to the basic cultural infrastructure of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, as well as the broader cultural program that is implemented on an annual basis in all Municipal Districts. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of culture as a factor of identity, social cohesion, education, extroversion and sustainable local development.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa expressed its readiness for closer cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Culture and its competent Departments, with the aim of protecting, documenting and highlighting cultural heritage, supporting contemporary creation, strengthening cultural participation and exploiting the cultural potential of the enlarged Municipality.
At the same time, it was emphasized that Ayia Napa, as an internationally recognized destination, has the ability to contribute substantially to the promotion of Cypriot culture, through quality actions, organized collaborations and initiatives that enhance cultural activity throughout the year.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa warmly thanks the Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, the Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and all the executives of the Departments and Services of the Deputy Ministry for their presence, their interest and the constructive exchange of views.
The visit was an essential step for institutional dialogue and cooperation, with the common goal of further strengthening the cultural role of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the free province of Famagusta.
