The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at its offices in Paralimni, the Deputy Minister of Immigration and International Protection Dr. Nikolas A. Ioannides, who was accompanied by his service associates.
The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of the former Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis. During the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Chamber led by the President Mr. Charalambos Manolis and the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos, a discussion developed in a particularly positive atmosphere, around important issues that relate to the responsibilities of the Deputy Minister.
Initially, Dr. Ioannidis informed about the government policies on the rationalization of legal immigration and the utilization of legal immigration channels to better combat irregular immigration, as well as about the repatriation operations of third-country nationals who do not have the right to reside in the Republic, based on the current international and European legal framework.
Among the issues discussed, the issue of reception and accommodation of both applicants for international protection in the Republic of Cyprus and unaccompanied minors was extensively analyzed. Reference was made to the integration of third-country nationals legally residing in the Republic of Cyprus, for which case the Deputy Minister announced that the National Strategy for the Integration of Resident ImmigrantsIssues were raised regarding the employment of foreign personnel in relation to the conclusion of intergovernmental agreements with third countries other than Egypt, in relation to the acceleration of procedures for issuing employment permits for labor from third countries, in relation to problems in securing a residence permit for the employment of professors from the United Kingdom, etc.
The Famagusta Chamber expresses its satisfaction for the immediate response and sincere interest of Dr. Ioannidis, but also for the fruitful exchange of views and information that took place. The discussion highlighted common concerns and the need for continuous cooperation between the Deputy Ministry and local bodies.
