The company Bioland wishes to proceed with the installation of large photovoltaic parks in the Municipal District of Frenaros. Organizations and residents of the area express their opposition arguing that the installation of these large photovoltaic parks with a capacity of 42 MWd on state land will contribute to the alteration of the flora and fauna of the area and the quality of life of the citizens.
Organizations and residents of the Municipal Apartment of Frenaros invite the public to show up en masse and protest during the informational meeting organized by the company Bioland regarding its intention to install the photovoltaic parks in question in Frenaros.
In their announcement, the agencies state that "the use of Renewable Energy Sources and the shift to "green" energy is the "one way" for sustainable development and there are other more environmentally friendly ways to promote them, such as placing them in roofs of houses, industrial facilities and hotel units where the financial benefit will be real and direct both to the residents and to the industrial and hotel units.
The most important of these impacts include the alteration of geomorphological features, significant occupation and retention of space, aesthetic impacts, reflection effects, visual nuisance, infringement of the environmental protection regime, degradation of aesthetic beauty and conflicts with the natural environment, the alteration of flora and fauna, the loss of habitats or agricultural lands, the possible reduction and overlapping of cultivated areas of high productivity and the creation of shadows".
The announcement adds that "therefore, it is very important to select and site photovoltaics based on environmental, social and economic criteria and on the basis of sustainable and local development, so that conflicts of land uses as well as negative impacts are reduced."
"We invite all the agencies and residents not only of the Municipal Apartment of Frenarous but of the entire Free District of Famagusta to attend on Thursday 17.10 in the event hall of the Municipal Apartment of Frenarous at 18:30 to be informed by the company Bioland about its intention for the installation of large photovoltaic parks in Frenaros and to express their opposition and concerns".
