In an atmosphere of deep mourning, pain and lamentation, the exodus ceremony for the three young men Ireneos Adamou, 20, Martino Marti, 20, and Nikola Koutsou, 18, who died at dawn, was held at two in the afternoon from the Holy Church of Archangel Michael in Frenaros. on Sunday, November 17, their lives in a road traffic collision.
The Church of the Archangel Michael was too small to accommodate their relatives, fellow villagers and friends, who, according to the wishes of the families of the three young people, were dressed in white blouses.
The funeral service was presided over by the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta Vasilios, and was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament Annita Dimitriou, the Minister of Justice and Public Order Marios Hartziotis, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis, MPs, Mayors of the area, officials of the National Guard, the Police, the Fire Service and a crowd of people.
A band of the National Guard played mournful dirges upon the arrival of the bodies of the three young men at the church of Archangel Michael, while outside the church, in addition to a crowd of people and soldiers, there were also ambulances.
Metropolitan Basilios of Constantia and Famagusta wished "eternal rest for the three young men and that Jesus Christ, the triune God, comforts the families and offers them patience to endure this pain that possesses their souls and also of all the believers who are present in the church".
On behalf of the family of the infantry soldier Nikolas Koutsos, a funeral speech was delivered by Panagiota Pieridou, who said, among other things, that "your sister lost her only brother. I don't know how we will manage to live without you."
"An angel has left our lives. You were the best thing anyone could have in their life and I don't know how we will manage to continue our lives without you by our side," he said.
On behalf of Martinos Marti's family, his sister Antonia gave a eulogy, crying: "I'm sorry, my widow. Today we are, dame, your mother, your father, your friends, it's time for you to go to grandfather Vassilis who adored you, to meet grandfather Martis, to grandma Mariou".
On behalf of the family of Irenaios Adamos, his aunt Pantelitsa Masoura delivered a eulogy, which said, among other things: "You left early, you had so much to tell us and so much to live for. You were only 20 years old with dreams and goals that you didn't get to live. Together with you, we lost a big part of ourselves." He noted that "we will never hear your voice again, your shaky smile, see your Levantine physiognomy again, we will never see you dance your beautiful zeibeki again".
He also mentioned that "I will not forget our good times, they will always be engraved in my heart and mind, we share everything, since I was your aunt and your best friend".
On behalf of the National Guard, a eulogy for the Infantry soldier Nikolas Koutsou was delivered by the Commander of the 611 Tactical Combat Group, Infantry Lt. Col. Spyros Perdios, who said, among other things, that "the National Guard is saying goodbye today to a worthy son, whose absence is a irreplaceable void" and thanked Nikolas for honoring the uniform and the oath he gave.
The funeral speech for the reserve soldier Martinos Marti was delivered by Infantry Lieutenant Giorgos Thomas, who said, among other things, that "today we pay our last respects to a man who honored his country, his family and his life with ethics, devotion and its integrity. Saying goodbye to Martino today, we realize the irreplaceable void left by his absence, but his memory will live forever in our hearts and like a beacon will guide us in moments of difficulty and trial", he noted.
The funeral speech for the reservist Irenaios Adamou was delivered by Infantry Lieutenant Konstantinos Stylianos, who said that "on behalf of the members and executives of the unit you loved and served for 14 months, we express a big and warm thank you for your invaluable contribution to society, the homeland and the National Guard. You certainly had a lot to offer to all of us and especially to your family, friends and community," he said, and prayed that God would give strength to his people.
The Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Giorgos Nikolettos, said, among other things, that "today our Municipality stands devastated in front of a tragedy, we say goodbye to three new children, three of our own people who left us so unjustly and prematurely. They were young people full of life and optimism, their kindness and generosity knew no bounds, while they were always ready to give without return."
He added that "their presence was catalytic, their absence unbearable. The loss of these children is not only a loss for the families but for our entire society. As a Municipality we stand by the families of our lost children, we are here to support in every possible way, to join our forces in this difficult moment" he concluded.
The Deputy Mayor of Frenarous, Kostas Michael, said that "since last Sunday, November 17, a dark and difficult day has dawned for our municipal apartment, since three young people, our friends and fellow citizens lost their lives so unjustly, leaving sadness and pain to everyone us but primarily to parents, siblings, grandparents and their close relatives. At the same time, two more young people are hospitalized with their families worrying about their future and our prayers are with them for a speedy recovery of their health."
"May the innocent souls of Nikolas, Martinos and Irenaios become the beacon of our youth and the Youth Council as well as the beacon of all of us to walk together and build the vision of our youth for a safer and better future," he said.
This was followed by the laying of wreaths by his grandfather Nikolas Koutsos, his sister Martinos Marti and his uncle Irenaios Adamos.
On behalf of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Justice laid a wreath and on behalf of the House of Representatives, the President of the body Annita Dimitriou.
Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Church of Cyprus and the Diocese of Constantia and Famagusta, the Minister of Defense, the National Guard, the Chief of Police, the Chief of the Fire Service, the 7th Infantry Brigade, parties (DISY, AKEL, DIKO, ELAM), of the Provincial Self-Governing Organization of Famagusta, the Municipalities of Paralimni - Deryneia and Agia Napa and the municipal district of Frenarous.
After the exodus, the national anthem was sung and a procession formed for the Frenarous cemetery where the three young people were buried. When the three bodies left the church, with the coffins covered with the Greek and Cypriot flags, the people applauded.
The procession was preceded by a funeral procession and a National Guard band playing mournful hymns.
It is noted that due to the funeral procession and mourning, most shops in Frenarous were closed from noon until five in the afternoon.
