The Special Education Day on the theme "Future for Opportunities - Inclusion, Support, Empowerment" was held with complete success at the Panos Ioannou Kokkinochoria High School on Friday, March 14, 2025.
The conference was organized by the Office of Special Education and Training of the Larnaca-Famagusta District Education Office, in collaboration with the Panos Ioannou Kokkinochoria High School, the Paralimni High School and the Paralimni High School.
The conference began with the official consecration ceremony and the inauguration of the special unit of the school. This was followed by greetings from the management and educational institutions. Particularly moving was the musical presentation by the students of the Music School of the Kokkinochoria High School, who sang with the students of the special unit.
In the first part of the conference, Stella Georgiou, philologist and head of the special unit at the Kokkinochoria Panos Ioannou High School, presented key aspects of the operation of the special units at the Gymnasium. Afterwards, Christina Kourouma, philologist and head of the special unit at the Paralimni High School, analyzed the importance of differentiated teaching in the Modern Greek subject, highlighting ways to adapt the teaching process to the needs of students with learning difficulties. In addition, Valentina Assou, philologist and head of the special unit at the Paralimni High School, presented the pre-vocational education program, which aims to prepare students for their professional and social integration.
The second part of the conference analyzed the support structures for students with disabilities and special educational needs. Adamos Kakouris, Director of the Panos Ioannou Kokkinochoria High School and President of the Parents' Association of the "Apostolos Pavlos" Employment Center, presented the work of the center, highlighting the possibilities and opportunities it offers to people with special needs.
Charalambos Konstantinou, social integration officer, developed the role of the social integration department, while Skevi Kasapi, YKE officer, on behalf of Ms. Maria Kyratzis, DYKE, analyzed the social welfare services that support people with disabilities.
This successful workshop highlighted the importance of inclusion and support for students with special needs, highlighting good practices and emphasizing the collaboration of all stakeholders. This initiative is another step towards creating a school environment that embraces diversity, giving every student the opportunity to fully develop their abilities.
The Management of the Kokkinochoria High School Panos Ioannou and the teachers expressed their warm thanks to all the participants of the event, as well as to the Office of Special Education and Training for its valuable support in the organization.
