Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou visited the Panagia Asprovouniotissa Picnic Area in the Frenaros Municipal District of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, as part of her visit to the ecclesiastical monuments of the area on May 21, 2026.
During her stay at the site, she had the opportunity to experience firsthand the experiential beekeeping workshop “Beekeeper for a Day” of the “Cypriot Myrrh Honey” apiary. Beekeeper Mr. Nicholas Papaleontiou presented the operation of the hive, the life cycle of the bee, its important role in the ecosystem, as well as the honey production process.
The visit was particularly lively with the presence of the children of the Paralimni Children's Club, who were at the site as part of an educational excursion. The coincidence of their presence with the Deputy Minister's visit highlighted the educational and social character of the site.
The experiential workshop "Beekeeper for a Day" offers participants the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of bees through interactive activities, such as the presentation of life in the hive, the use of a beekeeping uniform and a hive inspection, the demonstration of extracting honey from honeycombs with a manual bee extractor, as well as the tasting of honey, pollen and propolis.
The workshop participates in the DRA.SE. program of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, as well as in the "Heartland of Legends" program of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, offering valuable learning experiences to students, residents and visitors from Cyprus and abroad.
The Panagia Asprovouniotissa Picnic Area is a unique recreation and educational space, combining the natural environment, family infrastructure and experiential activities that highlight local tradition and the importance of environmental awareness.
