The President of the Famagusta District Government Organization, Yiannis Karousos, referred in a post to the way in which Anorthosis is being dealt with.
His post:
"As an Anorthosian, I will not remain silent when I see my team being treated in a way that raises serious questions about equal treatment."
Anorthosis is not asking for immunity. It is not asking for grace. It is not asking for anything to be given to it. It is asking for the obvious: the same rules for everyone.
Because justice with double standards is not justice. And institutions that do not convince about the consistency of their decisions lose their credibility. In Cypriot football, we are tired of hearing about regulations that are applied "strictly", when at the same time people see different cases and wonder if they are treated with the same strictness.
The authorities must answer clearly: Is there one measure for everyone or a different measure depending on the team? This does not only concern Anorthosis. It concerns the credibility of all Cypriot football. And something else.
Anorthosis is not just any club. It is the team of occupied Famagusta. It is history, refugeehood, memory and dignity.
This doesn't entitle her to preferential treatment — but it certainly doesn't allow anyone to think they can wrong her without repercussions.
If there are rules, they should apply to everyone. If there are penalties, they should be imposed with the same measure. Selective strictness is not equality.
As an Anorthosisian, I demand transparency, consistency, and equal treatment. Anorthosis does not ask for mercy. It asks for justice. And we will be here to demand it.”
