The situation in the Referral Hospital - The steps before intubation and mutation D.

She is only 31 years old, the youngest patient with coronavirus, who is being treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, which operates as a Reference Hospital.

As Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the General Hospitals of Larnaca - Famagusta, told KYPE, "today 50 patients with coronavirus are being treated at the Reference Hospital, seven of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit as they need closer monitoring. The youngest patient is 31 years old and the oldest 89, while the average age of the patients in the Hospital is 60 years ".

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "out of the 50 patients, only eight are vaccinated against Covid-19. The percentage of patients who have not been vaccinated is around 84% ".

He also stated that "12 patients are being treated at Larnaca General Hospital, one of whom is in the Intensive Care Unit. The Eden Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou hosts 139 people who will remain until their complete negativity ".

To another question, Ms. Hatzigianni answered that "the Delta mutation is so aggressive that it affects young people, resulting in sudden and rapid deterioration, with patients being taken to Intensive Care Units and very often to Intensive Care Units."

Initially, he said, "the patient may be admitted to the hospital with mild symptoms, low oxygen needs and in the course, from the 5th to the 7th day, to present with sudden acute respiratory failure."

He explained that "severe pneumonia causes respiratory problems with the result that patients need intubation and from the MAF ook sometimes end up in the ICU, which is very unpleasant for doctors."

According to her, "the medical and nursing staff is fighting against her Covid-19, initially in mild conditions, delivering oxygen through a nasal catheter with a few liters, while in the later stages of the disease Venturi masks are placed, ie high-density oxygen delivery devices ".

He then noted "we proceed to non-invasive mechanical ventilation (MEMA), while in case the patient's health condition does not improve, we lead to his intubation".

Ms. Hatzigianni also stated that "in order to deal with the coronavirus, the only weapon that remains is vaccination, but at the same time those who are vaccinated should not forget the measures of personal protection, ie mask and keeping distance".

"The Covid-19 vaccine increases the level of protection and protects against serious disease, but because immunity decreases over time, personal protective measures must be followed," he concluded.
