Noise pollution, staff and electricity prices concern PASYXE Famagusta

Issues of concern to the tourism and hotel industry, including the high price of electricity and the lack of qualified staff, were discussed at a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Pancyprian Hoteliers Association of Famagusta.

A written statement from PASYXE Famagusta states that "current and current issues were discussed at the meeting, as well as timeless problems of tourism and the hotel industry in general in the region."

In particular, "the problem of the lack of qualified staff was discussed in detail and it was emphasized that it is paradoxical that foreign students studying tourism are entitled to be employed in the tourism industry until the end of September and then banned from working in the same industry. in any other profession. "

The very high price of electricity in hotels is "another serious problem facing this industry, as a result of which it creates huge problems during the winter months and is a brake on the extension of the tourist season. It was particularly emphasized that the heavy industry does not charge the electricity with an industrial but with a commercial tariff ".

Regarding the tourist traffic at this time, the Board of Directors of PASYXE Famagusta "found with satisfaction that the occupancy remains at high levels while at the same time the level of visitors has greatly improved. High fees are expected to continue until the end of October while efforts are being made to keep as many hotels and tourist accommodation open as possible during the winter season. "

Another issue, according to the announcement occupied by the Board of Directors of PASYXE Famagusta, was "the timeless problems of the area, such as noise pollution, visual pollution and four-wheelers and it was decided to take the necessary steps to reduce or even and to eliminate the specific problems during the summer period of 2019 ".

One of the issues also discussed at the meeting was the Undersecretary of Tourism with the Association arguing that "the appointment should be made as soon as possible, so that the Undersecretary has time to criminalize and study the new strategy that will be called to implement immediately, while the person to be appointed should have direct knowledge of the subject ".

The Board of Directors of the Association also dealt with the ongoing infrastructure projects in the area of free Famagusta and examined ways to promote them in order to implement them in a timely manner.

According to the announcement, the annual event of PASYXE Famagusta will take place on Friday, October 26 at a hotel in Protaras and during it will be honored with the "Special Recognition Award", people who helped and supported with their decisions and actions the hotel industry of the Province of Famagusta ".
