The posting of the Famagusta Leisure Center Owners Association - SIKAA
Today, a delegation of our Association had a teleconference with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Savvas Perdios.
We presented to the Deputy Minister the problems faced by our industry, especially due to the coronavirus pandemic and especially the unfair treatment of our industry in the process of taking measures, as well as suggestions for solving chronic problems such as seasonality, unfair competition and the issuance of operating licenses.
We were informed by the Deputy Minister about various issues concerning our sector, such as the bill proposed by the Ministry of Tourism for the operation of Leisure Centers as well as plans for the upgrade of leisure centers that will be announced soon.
We asked the Deputy Minister of Tourism to convey to the Council of Ministers our intense concern about the issues of rents and installments in the banks that remain unresolved and threaten with bankruptcy many companies with tragic consequences for society and the country in general.
At this point we would like to congratulate and thank the owners of tourist properties who have shown understanding in the difficult conditions that the industry is going through, accepting big reductions and payment facilities to their tenants. However, there are some who try to take advantage of the difficult situation that prevails and do not accept any rental arrangements, whom we call on even the last to show understanding and enter into a dialogue with the tenants to find commonly accepted and reasonable rental arrangements.
Our Association thanks the Deputy Minister of Tourism for the dialogue and information.
