A joint letter to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Famagusta and communicated to all Mayors and Mayors of the free province of Famagusta, to all MPs and to the Ministers of Interior and Energy, Trade and Industry was sent today by the Mayors of Deryneia and Paralimni and the Mayors of Acheritos and Frenarous.

In the letter it is stated that the Mayors of Deryneia and Paralimni and the Mayors of Acheritos and Frenarous were informed about invitations sent by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Famagusta (E.B.E.A.) to Municipalities, Communities, Members of Parliament and other bodies regarding the preparation of a "Strategic Development Projects Plan" for the Free Province of Famagusta.

In the letter, Andros Karagiannis, Theodoros Pyrillis, Michalis Kaunas and Michalis Hatzigiorkas express their belief in E.B.E.A. that he acts with the sole aim of promoting the organization which is based in Limassol and that he wants and demands to "PATRONIZE" the Free Province without being aware of the negative consequences that these actions could have.

In the letter it is underlined that because any possible withdrawal of funding approved by the European funds due to the actions and actions of the E.B.E.A. must be prevented, the signatories of the letter remind the following:

  1. A Strategic Integrated Spatial Development Plan (SSPPA) has been drawn up for the entire Free District of Famagusta after a collective and persistent effort by the Municipalities of Paralimni, Deryneia, Sotira and Agia Napa and the Communities of Avgoros, Liopetriou, Frenarous, Achnas and Acheritou-Vrysoulos.
  2. The Study was prepared by the company "Anelixis" Development Consultants S.A. after suggestions were made by the local authorities, public consultations and presentations to all Municipalities and Communities with the active participation of all organized bodies TEBEA, PASYXE etc. as well as entrepreneurial citizens of the Free Province in which the E.B.E.A. did not take part.
  3. The study was submitted to the General Directorate of Development of the state and was approved with a high score by the competent committee.
  4. The General Directorate of Development has approved FINANCING from EUROPEAN FUNDS (for the first time in history) projects worth more than 50 MILLION.
  5. The study is posted on the website of the Municipality of Paralimni and anyone can study it and act within the relevant frameworks so that development projects included in the relevant study mature and are implemented.
  6. The study will be revised when the new programming period 2028-2035 will follow and for this reason the EBEA is invited, through the letter, to prepare for the submission of proposals with the start of the new programming period in 2028.

At the same time, an appeal is addressed to the E.B.E.A. as if he really wishes to implement the Development Projects in the Free Province of Famagusta to take the following actions:

  1. To work for the maturation and IMPLEMENTATION of the development projects included in the Integrated Spatial Development prepared and approved for the Free Province of Famagusta with projects amounting to 467.561.648,00 euros.
  2. Don't blame the E.B.E.A. in the non-absorption of funds that have been approved and transferred to projects in OTHER PROVINCES.
  3. To end any attempt for a Strategic Plan for Development Projects, since the OHA (Integrated Spatial Development) Strategic Planning already exists and is being implemented.
  4. It is clarified that any other action other than those mentioned above will be interpreted as an attempt to SUBMIT the NOA.

Finally, an appeal is made such as the E.B.E.A. become even a constant companion in the development course of the Free Province of Famagusta "so that our children and young people can have a better future in their place".
