Around the middle of the end of November, most of the hotel units of Ayia Napa and Protaras are expected to suspend their operation in view of the winter season. It is estimated that during this winter, in the two major tourist resorts of free Famagusta, the hotels that will remain open are not expected to exceed 20-22.
And this, as the president of PASYXE Famagusta Doros Takkas stated in the newspaper "Politis" because there has been no positive development that will change the balances regarding the winter tourist traffic in the province of Famagusta.
Therefore, winter tourism is not expected to increase this year and the traffic will be around the same levels as last year and in previous years. The winter tourist traffic will mainly concern elderly people, families, while from next January onwards, the descent of football teams is expected for the purpose of preparation at the stadium of the area.
Meanwhile, while most tourist businesses in Ag. Napa and Protaras are expected to close soon due to the winter, as it happens every year at such a time (the great goal of extending the tourist season has not yet been fully achieved), the tourist operators of the province sit on "burning coals", as these are making critical contacts with major UK travel agents and the country's airlines as part of the World Travel Market in London from 4 to 7 November. "From the contacts we will have these days, we are expected to draw useful conclusions regarding the interest that will be from the English market for next summer in view of the upcoming Brexit and after the closure of the Thomas Cook company", added the president of the Famagusta hoteliers.
