The Secretary of the Local Government SEK Andreas Charalambous filed a complaint with Famagusta News regarding two health workers who were forgotten one year after the implementation of the Local Government reform.
According to Mr. Charalambous, "a collaboration was created at the initiative of the Famagusta Health Services and the District Administration, which stated that all communities and town halls would contribute to a team that would combat rodents in the district. This collaboration was also subsidized by the Ministry of Interior."
He noted that "with the implementation of the Local Government reform, the two workers were forgotten. The cooperation is necessarily terminated due to the reform. The question is why they did not provide (like all other workers throughout Cyprus) to be transferred to the local government authorities or something else. Essentially so that they do not lose their jobs. The agreement between the Unions and the Minister of the Interior also provides for this."
In fact, one employee, an elected City Councilor, was forced to resign from his duties since he could not be both a health worker and a City Councilor.
Mr. Charalambous reported that the Greek Trade Union Confederation (SEK) has filed complaints that salaried employees have remained unpaid since February.
In a communication we had with the press representative of the Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Margarita Kyriakou, she stated that the competent Ministry cannot intervene in the duties of the Municipalities after the implementation of the reform. The Ministry of Interior, in its letters to the Municipalities, suggested that they keep the two workers.
