The Police proceeded with the arrest of a 24-year-old man, to facilitate investigations regarding the arrival of a boat in the sea area of ​​Famagusta, in which 18 persons were on board.

The boat was stopped around 12 noon yesterday, in the sea area off Cabo Greco, by the Port and Maritime Police. It was found that 10 men, two women and six children were on board.

Both the boat and its passengers were safely transported to the fishing shelter of Paralimni. From the tests carried out, it was found that the boat had sailed from the coast of Syria, in the afternoon of last Friday, November 18. According to testimonies obtained, the captain of the boat was the 24-year-old man, who was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

Today the 24-year-old was brought before the District Court of Famagusta, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

As for the remaining 17 passengers of the boat, upon completion of the examinations, they were transferred to the "Pournara" Hospitality Center.
