Famagusta Recreation Centers: React with maximum number of people in restaurants

The Association of Owners of Ammohostos Recreation Centers expresses its concern about the new restrictions announced by the Ministry of Health regarding the maximum number of people in the catering facilities.

According to the announcement, there is an understanding of logic behind the Minister's decision, which aims to protect public health. It also condemns all violations of decrees observed over the past three days throughout Cyprus, despite the fact that for some reason only one incident was made public in the Famagusta District.

In addition, the statement said, it is not possible to deny all responsibility to the owners of leisure centers and not to emphasize the responsibility of patrons for non-compliance with the decrees.

Unfortunately, the new restrictions are affecting businesses that have so far adhered to all the protocols issued, incurring additional costs and employing the right number of people to meet customer service needs that were entitled to service square footage. their.

In some cases large restaurants, based on the new restrictive measures, will serve half the number of customers than they could the day before yesterday.

Combined with the already reduced turnover in restaurants and the fact that companies cannot make redundancies due to their participation in the Special Plans of the Ministry of Labor, there will be, as mentioned, huge financial consequences for several companies.

The damage, it is said, will be even greater in restaurants that have only closed spaces. The directive, the statement said, would also discourage new recruitment in the industry, burdening public finances for another month.

In addition, the whole situation has highlighted a long-standing problem facing restaurants, which is none other than operating licenses. On the one hand, the fact that due to urban planning regulations and problems and due to delays by some competent services, there is a long delay in the issuance of permits and in some cases it is not possible to issue a license, although the company has successfully passed all inspections. the competent services. On the other hand, the fact that there is no clear division of leisure centers into categories results in the victimization of the entire industry for the infringements of a particular category of leisure centers.

The announcement concludes that although the Association agrees with the need to take measures to protect public health, it calls on the Minister of Health and the Government to seek in consultation with the stakeholders different ways of dealing with this problem.
