The Xylotymbos Kimon Association is organizing a lecture on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding, at which Dr. Petros Papapolyviou, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Philosophy of the University of Cyprus, will deliver a speech.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 07:30 p.m. and will examine aspects of Xylotymbo's participation and contribution to the national Games, which marked the period of the British rule of Cyprus.
In particular, the voluntary enlistment of the Xylotymbiotes in the Greco-Ottoman War (1897), in the Balkan Wars and the Asia Minor Campaign will be studied, as well as their recruitment into the military corps of the two World Wars, the community's contribution to the October Uprising of 1931, its presence in the three unification referendums and, finally, its diverse action during the four-year epic of EOKA.
