The supercharged decompression chambers that exist in the Hospitals of Paphos and Paralimni remain closed.
These chambers, in addition to the disease of divers, are also used to treat other pathological problems and help patients to recover faster and prolong their lives. According to information from "POLITI", the booths are out of order because there is not the necessary staff to use them.
For Paphos Hospital, the doctor who had been trained in the use of the decompression chamber resigned and there is no one to replace him. Due to the general upheaval that prevails in state hospitals (GESS), no one knows when and if doctors will be found to train in the use of overweight wards.
These chambers are usually staffed by two nurses and a doctor. However, if there is a case of diver's disease, a hyperbaric chamber exists only in the private sector in Limassol. Given the development of diving tourism in recent years in Cyprus, these booths are considered essential equipment for state hospitals and can save lives. At the same time, however, they can be used for other treatments.
