Its cost is € 8,5 million and will be co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020 (75% from European resources and 25% from nationals), effectively contributing to the sustainable development of fisheries in the wider region.
After an architectural competition, a special Committee for the Monitoring of the Project was set up with representatives from the Departments of Urban Planning and Housing, Fisheries and Marine Research, Environment, Forests, Water Development, Water and Public Works and Public Works, the Service The professional fishermen of the fishing shelter contributed with their knowledge and experience to the multidimensional work of the Monitoring Committee for the design and creation of a space specially designed to meet their needs.

According to Mr. Kadis, the main goal of the project is to upgrade the fishing shelter into a modern, safe and organized workplace for professional fishermen. He also said that at the same time as the fishing shelter will be formed, the surrounding area will be shaped, which will contribute to the protection and promotion of the natural environment of the river area, and the creation of an attraction for the visitor, offering services and alternatives. ways to have fun.

That is, a coastal front, ie about 25 kilometers long, perhaps the largest organized tourist coastal front of the island.
It has already generated interest from entrepreneurs

He added that today, the Fisheries Shelter consists of ephemeral and rough constructions of the fishermen themselves, without ensuring the appropriate conditions for the execution of their work.
It is also important that, together with the renovation of the space, the surrounding area will be configured, which will contribute to the protection and promotion of the natural environment of the river area, and to the creation of an attraction for the visitor, offering him services and alternative ways of recreation in a perimeter radius around the main project.
According to circles in the community of Liopetri, only the announcement of the intention to create the project, created interest and surveillance of land development entrepreneurs in the wider area of the river Liopetri.
