The Municipality of Ayia Napa is organizing the 1st Fish Festival – “Fisherman and Liopetri River Festival”, a special event dedicated to the sea, the fisherman, the fishing tradition and the cultural heritage of the Municipal District of Liopetri.
The River is a unique point of reference. It is a place of unique natural beauty, inextricably linked to the history, tradition and daily life of the people of Liopetri.
The River is not just a place. It is memories, people, stories and life. It is the fishermen, the boats, the nets, the longline, the skarka and all that has been passed down from generation to generation and is today an integral part of our cultural heritage.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy free fish, as well as a variety of seafood flavors and traditional recipes, in a unique gastronomic experience.
At the same time, professional fishermen will present their profession live through traditional fishing techniques, such as nets, longlines, skarkas and other tools and techniques associated with the fishing tradition of Liopetri.
A special place at the Festival will be occupied by the photography exhibition "The River That Lives in Our Memories". Through rare images and photographs born from the memories and lives of the residents, visitors will have the opportunity to travel back in time and experience a different, yet at the same time so familiar, River.
For our little friends, interactive activities on the theme of the sea will be held, thus getting to know the marine world in a pleasant and educational way.
The evening will culminate with a rich artistic program, which will include tsiattista, recitations by the Liopetriotissa Kotrofisimi Foni, island dances and a great island feast with Matthew Giannoulis and Nikos Chaivadakis.
The 1st Fish Festival is a celebration of flavors, music, tradition, memory and the sea, honoring the fisherman, the River and the entire Municipality of Ayia Napa.
Under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Christos Senekis.
