LIOPETRI: We insist on the decision to merge with Ayia Napa and Liopetri
"It will contribute to the strong and rational development of the region"
We insist on the unification of the Community of Liopetri with the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Sotira, said the Deputy Mayor of Liopetri, Vassos Manolis, to KYPE. Mr. Manolis was invited to comment on a letter recently sent to the Minister of Interior Nikos Nouris, the Presidents of the Community Councils of Acheritos, Avgoros, Frenaros and Achnas in which he suggests the creation of a single Municipality in the free province of Famagusta.
The Community of Liopetri, he said, "confirms its position for unification with the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Sotira, a consensual and unanimous decision taken by the three entities. From our side, we clarify and insist on our position for such an action, which concerns the unification of Municipalities and Communities in the context of the reform of Local Government ".
At the same time, he expressed the "wish and hope that the State, the Parliament and the authorities will see positively the unanimous specific decision of the three entities and will implement it". He also noted that "the unification of the Community of Liopetri with the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Sotira, both geographically and from a tourist and economic point of view, will contribute to the strong and rational development of the region.
"Even with this merger, we are given the opportunity through a continuous coastline and as neighboring entities that we are to expect in a proper, unified development with similar characteristics."
