A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate police inquiries regarding an ongoing shooting incident in Liopetri after New Year's Eve.
According to the Police, ten minutes after midnight yesterday, Wednesday January 1st, as part of policing measures in the area for the coming of the new year, members of the Famagusta Police Department noticed a double-cab vehicle heading from Liopetri to Xylofagou despite the building of the Liopetri Community Council .
According to the Police, the co-driver of the double cab allegedly pointed a double-barreled shotgun out the window and fired twice into the air, while the vehicle continued on its way.
Investigations carried out identified the registered owner of the vehicle, aged 41, for whom a warrant was issued, he was arrested and taken into custody.
It is noted that the owner of the vehicle was the passenger who fired the two shots into the air and faces offenses including illegal possession and transportation of a firearm, illegal use of explosives and firing shots into a residential area.
