The works for the regeneration of the river Liopetri are in full progress, which is expected to be completed in March 2023 and is estimated to cost 8 million 117 thousand euros.
The projects concern at the present stage the cleaning of the shoreline of the natural fjord, while at the same time the construction of a kiosk at the entrance of the space is in progress.
As Themis Spyrou, Project Engineer on behalf of Lois Builders Ltd, stated to KYPE, "the regeneration works of the Liopetri river, which will extend within a radius of one kilometer, started in September 2020 and are being carried out without any problem so far".
He added that "the kiosk will be located on the right side of the street and according to the project design, in the future the kiosk will function as an exhibition space. Visitors will be able to be informed about the flora, fauna and other characteristics of the geographical area of the river through forms and photos ".
Also “in the area there will be a special point from where guests can rent a bike to enjoy their walk on the bike path that will be built. The projects include about 120 modern areas for safe mooring of fishing boats for professional fishermen of the river Liopetri, who will have their own accommodation and parking space ".
According to Mr. Spyrou, “there will also be a Fisheries Training Center with a large room, which can be used to host seminars and events. Next to the Center there will be a special area with modern infrastructure so that fishermen can take their fish out of the nets, while next to the river carnagio there will be a repair area for fishermen's boats ".
Answering a relevant question, the Engineer said that "visitors will also be able to walk on the northeast side of the project with the same ease as today in the southeast.
The total cost of the Liopetri river rehabilitation project amounts to 8 million, 117 thousand euros and the project is co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus ".
He also stated that "the completion of the project is expected to take place in March 2023, ie about ten years after the initial planning for its renovation which was in March 2013".
It is noted that the renovation plans were prepared by the architect Vassilis Ieridis from the Architectural Office "Vassilis Ieridis and Associates" and with its completion the project will be adjacent to the beach of Agia Thekla in Sotira and the marina of Ayia Napa, the free province of Amo an organized single coastal front that will start from the area of Kappari and will end at the river of Liopetri.
