Despite the unstable weather, the Municipal District of Liopetri managed to light up the Christmas decorations on Saturday night (December 06), utilizing modern technology and after the signal was given by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Mr. Markos Koumis.
The event was moved from the Square to the "Kyriakos Trisokkas" Multipurpose Hall of the 1st Primary School of Liopetri, so that it could take place without difficulties and safely, while the Liopetri Municipal Government pioneered, as for the first time in Cyprus, lighting was carried out with the help of technology.
The evening began with a Live Link from Zenith Fm, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. Carols followed from the Musical Group of Elias Hadjimichael, while the acrobat Constantin offered an impressive show that thrilled young and old. The Antonella Sokratous Fitness Shape Studio also participated in the event, while the Anti-Drug School with the groups of Mr. Dimitris Sardalou and Mr. Savvas Adamou gave its own special touch. The Paso Libre Dance School presented beautiful dance performances, Maskot and Xylopodaros gave happy moments with their show, and the evening concluded musically with the group of Stavris Athanassios, Chionoula Kouvaro and Xeni Xeni.
Welcoming the event, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, stated that as the Municipality of Ayia Napa, together with all the Deputy Mayors and the Members of the Municipal Council, through the impeccable and good cooperation that has been developed, the necessary mutual support is achieved in terms of the actions implemented in all the Municipal Districts. He noted that the joint effort aims at the overall development of the Municipality, which is none other than the unified Municipality of Ayia Napa.
He also added that the aim and purpose of the municipal authority is to create a large and strong Municipality, recalling that the Municipality of Ayia Napa is the fifth largest geographically out of the twenty in Cyprus and one of the most important economically. He underlined that the main priority is to create conditions that will allow young children to have a future and perspective in their place.
Afterwards, Mr. Zannetou wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, expressing the hope that 2026 will be the year of reunification of our homeland. At the same time, he mentioned that the event was ultimately held indoors due to the unstable weather conditions, however, there was no intention to cancel it, as, as he underlined, these Christmas events are held mainly for children, so that they can rejoice and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
In closing, he noted that the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Mr. Markos Koumis, by presenting the lighting of the Christmas decorations through a special technological application, gave a different, but equally beautiful dimension to this year's event.
For his part, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Mr. Markos Koumis, wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, expressing his gratitude to the citizens for their support and participation. He stated that, despite the difficulties due to the weather, the joy of the holidays remains alive and that everyone's goal is to offer beautiful moments to families and especially to children. He also emphasized that the cooperation with the Municipality of Ayia Napa continues harmoniously for the good of Liopetri and the entire Municipality.
During the event, free fish soup, pumpkin soup, mulled wine, zivania and other festive delicacies were offered. At the same time, organized groups, associations and individuals sold Christmas crafts and delicacies, creating a warm, traditional Christmas market.
