The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Mr. Giannakis Gavriil, spoke on the program Protoselido of SIGMA about the end of the contract for the fishing shelter and Liopetriou River.
Mr. Gabriel stated that "repeated sessions were held at the agriculture committee, we sounded the alarm and asked for explanations, the urban planning department that was the competent authority to supervise the project told us that all the extensions given to the contractor were justified through the KEA"
He added that we do not know how long it will take to find a new contractor to proceed with the project... We have asked for two simple things firstly the immediate restart of the project and for the interior ministry to find a way to proceed with the completion of the project and secondly those affected be compensated” .
Mr. Gabriel said that the professional fishermen are divided into two categories, those who stayed in the port of Liopetriou but cannot maintain their boats because they cannot take them ashore, those who have moved and gone to other fishing sanctuaries and a third they are the ones who are influenced by those who went to them.
"There is a restaurant that has been closed for two years... one wonders how these people who worked there survive," he added.
