Ancient objects that seem to date back to the Roman period have brought to light earthworks that have been carried out recently on the Liopetri River in the context of the renovation of the fishing shelter.
In the images provided by Famagusta.News There are a significant number of ancient objects and ruins which confirm the existence of a Roman settlement in the area, since according to the Department of Antiquities the existence of the site and remains of a Roman settlement in the area are certified.
Among other things, as shown in the pictures, columns, clay pots and fragments of glass were found.
It is pointed out that for the project of regeneration of the fishing shelter on the Liopetri River, the "Green" light was given by the Environmental Authority in 2019 after the submission of the Proper Environmental Impact Assessment, without mentioning the archaeological importance of the area.
The project has been approved for co-financing by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020, the estimated budget is 8,2 million euros, the contracting authority is the Ministry of Interior and its completion is estimated at the end of January 2023.
