A meeting was held yesterday in a consensual atmosphere on the river Liopetri to find a solution to the issue of moving the boats of professional fishermen for the period when the reconstruction works of the river will be carried out.
The meeting was attended by Famagusta MP Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, representative of the town planning and fisheries department and professional fishermen, the project architect and officials of the community council of Liopetri as well as the director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Panogi.
The outcome of the meeting was to find a compromise solution which proposes that half of the fishermen moor the fishing boats at the mouth of the river and the other half be temporarily transferred to the port of Ayia Napa.
The works, according to the authorities, will start on September 18, while the fishermen will have to remove their boats on Tuesday, September 15.
