The Blood Center of the Ministry of Health informs the public that the stocks of blood derivatives are at dangerously low levels, despite the great effort made for several days to recover the blood stocks. Unfortunately, the huge gap created by the pandemic with the cancellation of all blood donations in schools and universities during the spring months is unfilled. This resulted in us entering the difficult summer season without the necessary supplies. At the same time, the public health safety and protection measures taken due to the pandemic, result in an increased number of blood donor blockades.
"We extend a warm appeal to all blood donors for an urgent blood supply. We invite young and regular blood donors to come for blood donation at blood donation stations and organized blood donations. Patients at the operating tables, the injured, multiple transfusions and many others are waiting for your offer as the most valuable gift. We are sure that our blood donors will once again respond and be present at our call. "Once again we will become champions in blood donation and social contribution."
It is noted that people who have traveled anywhere outside Cyprus for 28 days, people who have symptoms of a virus and / or any clinically proven respiratory disease, and people who have come in close contact with a confirmed or suspected case are temporarily excluded from blood donation.
It is emphasized that the procedures used by the Blood Center are strictly controlled and are characterized by complete safety for our blood donors and patients.
Blood donation takes place today, Wednesday, August 12, in the Hall of the Church of Panagia Eleoussis in Liopetri from 7:30 until 19:00.
