On the occasion of the feast of the Three Hierarchs, who are the Holy Patrons of Education and Letters, the Community Volunteering Council of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Ayia Napa Municipality, organized the Feast of Letters as part of its social activities.
The speaker at the event, which took place on Thursday, January 30, at the Liopetri Multipurpose Center, was the Steward Father Andreas Elias, who, after making an extensive reference to the life and work of the three Hierarchs, also pointed out that Saint Basil, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom remain to this day a role model and the best example of both teacher and student.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, characterized the Three Hierarchs, due to their exceptional contribution to both education and spiritual development, as protectors of Greek letters and role models in the field of education, since, as he noted, each of them has contributed to the shaping of Christian teaching with their works and thoughts, promoting study, wisdom and knowledge as means to spiritual empowerment and piety.
"This celebration," he added, "is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of education in the Orthodox tradition. The education promoted by the Three Hierarchs was an education that combined faith with knowledge, since the Greek, from ancient times to the present day, considered education and the cultivation of the mind as an essential element for its existence and the progress of its civilization."
Therefore, he noted, "amidst today's geopolitical and geostrategic developments, education and knowledge constitute the backbone of the survival and continuation of Hellenism throughout the centuries."
Referring to the awarded students, he said that the event is dedicated to them and their efforts and successes, their thirst and love for learning. "We congratulate you on your enthusiasm, your energy, your hard work and we applaud your efforts through which you achieved excellence."
He also expressed his warm congratulations to the President, the Members and all the Volunteers of the Liopetri Community Volunteering Council for the initiative to praise excellence, but also for the beautiful organization.
He assured that both he personally and all members of the Ayia Napa Municipal Council will be continuous, ardent supporters of the Council and its actions.
In his greeting, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Ayia Napa Municipality, Mr. Markos Koumis, after making special mention of the Three Hierarchs, referred to our fellow citizen, Mr. Ioannis Trisokkas, Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, who was awarded in 2023 by the University of Padua in Italy for writing the best article in the research field of the philosophy of Art, a fact that constitutes a great distinction and to whom a commemorative plaque was awarded by the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou and Mr. Markos Koumis.
Mr. Koumis congratulated the awarded students and urged them on the path of excellence so that they can continue this beautiful effort to improve society.
The President of the SKE Liopetriou, Mr. Vasos Christodoulou, said that the philosophy of the SKE is that children should be shown the right role models in every way. Excellence is not an end in itself, he continued, which is why, in addition, at the Summer Cultural Evening, all those who bring remarkable achievements in all fields were awarded.
Excellence in Greek Letters, he added, is something that the Three Hierarchs first demonstrated, therefore "we as SKE will continue to walk the path of excellence and love."
The event was enriched with beautiful songs by music student Georgia Paraschou.
