The District Court of Famagusta today issued an eight-day detention order against a 27-year-old man to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding an investigated case of robbery, carrying a weapon to incite terror and attempted theft, offenses which were allegedly committed between June 26 and 27 in Ayia Napa. The 27-year-old was arrested early today.
A statement from the Police Communication Department states that "a 29-year-old woman who lives in an apartment complex in Ayia Napa reported that around 08:40 last night, an unknown man knocked on the door of her apartment. After the 29-year-old woman opened the door, the stranger entered her apartment and, under the threat of a knife, allegedly took a sum of money from her bag."
According to the complainant, "then the perpetrator allegedly forced her into his car and took her to an automatic bank machine. There, the perpetrator allegedly, also under the threat of a knife, forced her to withdraw cash, which he took from her."
It is added that "shortly later, a 37-year-old resident of Ayia Napa reported to the Police that at around 11:10 last night, two persons unknown to him, riding in a specific car, tried to steal his jet ski, which was parked outside his house, without succeeding".
As stated in the Police announcement, "shortly after midnight, the Force received information about a car driving suspiciously in the area of Ayia Napa. Members of the Police went to the area, where around 1:40 this morning, they located and stopped for control, the car which resembled the description of the vehicle in which the two perpetrators of the attempted theft, which the 37-year-old had reported earlier ».
From investigations carried out, it was established that "the driver of the vehicle was a 27-year-old man. In his possession was found, after an investigation, the sum of 924 euros, for which he did not give sufficient explanations as to how he came into his possession, as a result of which he was arrested for the spontaneous offense of illegal possession of property".
From further examinations, "testimony emerged against the 27-year-old, in relation to the robbery case, which the 29-year-old had reported. The young man was taken into custody for the robbery case, which the 29-year-old had reported. In the morning he was brought before the District Court of Famagusta, which issued a detention order against him for eight days."
He is suspected of offenses involving armed robbery, entering a residence with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping or abducting a person for the purpose of secret and unjust confinement, carrying a weapon to incite terror, carrying a knife outside of a residence, possession of an offensive weapon, attempted theft, and unlawful possession of property.
