Lucas Lingis, a young and active Municipal Councilor from the Famagusta District, is currently in Brussels, specifically from October 13, 2025 to October 15, 2025, participating in the Young Elected Politicians (YEP) program, which is a European Union initiative that unites young elected politicians from across Europe.
A program that aims to enhance youth participation in decision-making offers the opportunity for mayors, municipal and regional councilors to exchange ideas, discuss common challenges, but above all, discuss how they can build partnerships for a more united and democratic European future.
Lucas Lingis, through his participation, represents Cyprus and in particular the local community of Achna and by extension Ayia Napa, giving voice to the needs and visions of the young people of the region, and beyond. It is certainly a tremendous experience, as it gives the participants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge on a variety of topics, such as how our cities are shaped, and this in the presence of the President of the European Parliament, Ms. Roberta Metsola.
In a statement, he said, "It is truly special to represent your community, but of course also Cyprus, in institutions of this scope. This experience is a valuable asset for the future, as in addition to knowledge, it offers acquaintances and connections to a network of young politicians with a common vision. Together we can join forces and achieve tangible results."
The presence of the young Cypriot politician in the YEP highlights the role of the new generation on the European political scene, while simultaneously strengthening Cyprus' position in the decision-making centers of Brussels.
