With hymns, trisayas, wreath-layings and parades held in all its Municipal Districts, the Municipality of Ayia Napa honored the National Anniversary of March 25, 1821, with all its splendor this year.
In the Ayia Napa Municipal District, the Doxology was celebrated at the Church of Panagia Ayia Napa, where the day's Solemn Sermon was delivered by the Vice-President of DISY and DISY MP for Famagusta, Mr. Giorgos Karoullas, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Antonis Christou, Members of the Municipal Council and a representative of the Police.
In his celebratory speech, Mr. Karoullas mentioned that today we honor through the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary the human rebirth and at the same time our struggles for freedom.
March 25, 1821, he added, is the most important historical event in the modern course of the Greek nation, and demonstrated the true greatness of an entire people, who made a final and irrevocable decision to claim, demand, and win their freedom at any cost and sacrifice, even if this cost involved the death of many.
After the Doxology, the Municipal Banner along with the Greek, Cypriot and Revolutionary Flags as well as the Band of the Municipality and the Church of Panagia Agia Napa paraded in the Famagusta District Parade which took place along 1st April Avenue in Paralimni.
In the Sotiras Municipal District, the Doxology was held at the Holy Church of the Resurrection of the Savior, where the day's solemn sermon was delivered by the Director of Secondary General Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Mr. Nikolas Giasoumi. After the Doxology, a trisagion and the laying of wreaths took place at the Sotiras Monument to the Fallen and Missing.
Afterwards, the parade was held along Arch. Makarios III Avenue, in which Sotiras Schools and Organized Ensembles took part and the Sotiras Catechetical Congregations Band played, while the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, the Deputy Mayor of the Sotira Municipality, Mr. Antonis Koumis, and the Director of Secondary General Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Mr. Nikolas Giasoumis, were greeted in the presence of Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.
In the Municipal District of Liopetri, the Doxology was celebrated in the Church of Panagia Eleousa of Liopetri in the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Markos Koumis, where the day's solemn sermon was delivered by the President of the Educational Service Committee, Mr. Panagiotis Antoniou, and immediately afterwards a parade followed, in which the Band of the Nationalist Associations of Liopetri "I Do Not Forget", the Band of EDON of Liopetri, Schools, Organized Ensembles and Associations of the Municipal District of Liopetri participated.
In the Municipal District of Avgorou, the Doxology was celebrated at the Holy Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, where the Panegyric of the Day was delivered by Philologist Ms. Fotini Pavlou and Deputy Mayor Mr. Panagis Michaelas delivered a greeting. After the Doxology, a trisagion and wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Monument of the Heroes and the parade of Schools and Organized Ensembles along Karyon Avenue in front of the Municipal Building of the Municipal District of Avgorou.
The Solemn Doxology was held at the Church of Agia Marina and Archangel Michael in the Municipal District of Achna, where the Solemn Doxology of the Day was delivered by DISY MP for Famagusta Mr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Mr. Nikos Vasilas and other dignitaries. This was followed by the parade of Schools and Organized Ensembles along Georgios Grivas Digenis Avenue and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the hero of EOKA Giasoumi Hatzitheodosiou.
