The Water Development Department informs the public that, due to a technical problem that occurred over the weekend at the Larnaca Desalination Plant, the supply of drinking water to the water reservoirs of the Communities and District Local Government Organizations (DGOs) of the Districts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta may be reduced. Efforts are being made to restore the supply from the Larnaca Desalination Plant within the day.
Until the unit is fully restored to the system, the water supply to the areas is covered by the Tersefanou Refinery, the Kornos Refinery and the Dhekelia Desalination Plant.
It is recalled that the total storage capacity of the reservoirs of the Municipality of Nicosia amounts to 87.750 cubic meters, of the Municipality of Larnaca to 22.000 cubic meters and of the Municipalities of Paralimni and Ayia Napa to 15.000 cubic meters, a fact that has so far contributed to ensuring that there are no deficiencies in consumer service.
However, both consumers and Water Supply Authorities are called upon to demonstrate responsible water use and, where possible, limit consumption to a minimum.
It is noted that a technical issue also occurred at the Vasilikos Desalination Plant, which was immediately restored thanks to the coordinated intervention of the EAC and the Department of Water Development.
