The inauguration of the project for the improvement of Kapparis Avenue, in Paralimni, as well as part of Giorki Papadopoulou and Apollonos streets, was held on Friday by the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis.
In his speech, the Minister referred to an important project, both for the municipal district of Paralimni and for the entire Famagusta district, since, as he said, in its extension in the future it will meet Kennedy Avenue of the occupied Municipality of Famagusta.
The project, he continued, was executed by the Lois Builders Ltd – Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Ltd JV Consortium, following an open tender, with a contract amount of €6,5 million plus VAT. The start of work took place during the ministry of the former Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yiannis Karousos on October 7, 2021 and the project was completed on June 27, 2024.
As he said, Kapparis Avenue includes two lanes of traffic with roadside parking spaces, sidewalks, green islands and tree basins, a bike path, pedestrian crossings and bus stop bays. In addition, a new roundabout and pedestrian crossings were constructed, which aim to upgrade the level of safety.
He also said that a new rainwater drainage network was constructed, a new sewage network in part of the project, new irrigation and water supply networks, undergrounding of electricity and telecommunications services and installation of street lighting.
"Improving the road network is high on the Government's priorities, since it constitutes the backbone of the country's economic and commercial activities," said Mr. Vafeadis.
He said that the main road network in the Famagusta Free Zone has been substantially completed and the state is now promoting the implementation of urban development - road and other projects that will upgrade and beautify the area. “These projects will enhance the safe movement of vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, improve traffic management, upgrade public utility services and promote sustainable mobility in the area,” the Minister said.
