Paralimni: an 18-year-old man was driving a motorcycle without a license and was causing a disturbance

Dozens of complaints about traffic violations in three days

Within the framework of the strategic planning campaign of the Famagusta Police Department for the prevention of road conflicts in Famagusta District, road policing was carried out between the dates 17-20/5/24 which resulted in 137 traffic complaints which mainly related to exceeding the speed limit, use of mobile phones phone, driving without a driver's license, without a driving license, without a safety certificate, violations related to the non-use of seat belts by the driver and passenger. Also, 53 alcohol tests were carried out with one complaint, while a large displacement motorcycle was seized which brought mechanical conversions.

Specifically, on 19/5/24 at 0010 hours, while members of the Famagusta Traffic Police and the Paralimni Police Station were performing a traffic control on Glaukos Cleridis Street in Paralimni, as part of the campaign, they stopped for control a large displacement motorcycle which was detected being driven at high speed in such a manner which could cause an accident while also causing damage to the area. The check revealed that the driver was an 18-year-old foreigner from Paralimni who was driving without a driver's license, without a safety certificate and without registration plates. The motorcycle was found to have mechanical and other modifications and was impounded for further testing. The Paralimni police station is investigating.

Also on 19/5/24 and around 2330 hours, members of the Paralimni Police Station stopped for a check on Protaras Avenue in Paralimni a vehicle which was found to be driven by a 27-year-old foreigner from Paralimni. During the check it was found that he was driving the vehicle in question committing traffic offences, and in particular he was driving it without a third party security certificate, without a traffic license from 31/12/21, with a canceled registration, while the registered owner has been another person for 3 years without take the necessary actions for transfer in his name as provided by law. Also, in a subsequent search of his vehicle, two knives with a fixed blade were found and confiscated, for which the 27-year-old was arrested for committing self-inflicted offenses and then taken to the Paralimni Police Station where he was charged in writing and released to be summoned later. His vehicle was impounded to be tested by the Road Transport Department as to whether it is fit for road use. The Paralimni police station is investigating.

ADE Famagusta will continue its campaigns while informing the public using the road network that excessive speed, driving counterfeit vehicles and motorcycles, using mobile phones and under the influence of alcohol and drugs are the main causes of fatal and serious accidents road collisions.
