The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Thursday the beaches of Cyprus that were awarded the "Blue Flag".
In total, 66 beaches of the island have been awarded, three more than last year which are from free Famagusta.
The "Blue Flag" is an international institution that promotes environmental awareness. A prerequisite for awarding a coast with the "Blue Flag" is the excellent quality of its waters.
According to the results of the latest Report of the European Commission, Cyprus complies with the strictest requirements of the Maritime Strategy Directive.
In the institution of the "Blue Flag", the leader and president of the National Judge is the Cyprus Association for the Protection of the Marine Environment CYMEPA, an autonomous and non-profit institution, which since 1992 contributes with its actions in the effective treatment of marine pollution.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, through the Department of Environment, coordinates and has the general responsibility for the implementation of the "Law on Quality Management of Bathing Water of 2008", in collaboration with the Health Service and the General State Laboratory , which are the departments responsible for monitoring the quality of bathing water.
