As Christos Andreou, the Police's press representative, reported to KYPE, "around 05.45 this morning, a boat was spotted outside the area of Agia Triada in Paralimni, which arrived from the occupied areas. There were 61 people on board, 42 men, 8 women and 11 children."

He added that "the competent State Services have gone to the area and their registration process is underway, while upon completion, the immigrants will be transferred to the First Reception Center for Immigrants "Pournara" in Kokkinotrimithia. Investigations are also being carried out by the Police in order to identify their traffickers".

Responding to a related question, Mr. Andreou said that "in 2020, the Police throughout free Cyprus arrested a total of 27 migrant traffickers, in 2021 50, while for 2022 until August 24, 65 traffickers were arrested. Also, the Police in collaboration with other competent Services such as the Ministry of the Interior and the Asylum Service have arranged and deported a total of 2022 immigrants to date for 4.019".

To another question, he answered that "most deportations took place in Sub-Saharan African countries, Georgia and other Asian countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh".

"The goal of most immigrants who arrive in Cyprus is to go to Central European countries such as Italy, France and Belgium," he said.

According to Mr. Andreou, "in the last three days in Pafos province, on six different occasions, an equal number of people tried to travel with fake or real documents presented as other persons, to Central European countries. The Police arrested the six people as well as a person who helped to obtain the fake documents who were brought before the Court and have been remanded in custody."

He also noted that "today and tomorrow the specific cases are expected to be registered before the Paphos District Court".
