Alalum with the beaches - Complaints from Mavrou - What Pyrillis answers (VIDEO)

Bahalo seems to prevail in the implementation of the legislation for the beaches. Complaints were submitted to the competent committee of the Parliament, which speak of exceeding by the local authorities their responsibilities for sunbeds and umbrellas.

The local authorities seem to be doing a different translation of the law on the protection of the beach, according to what was reported to the Parliamentary Committee on Interior. At yesterday's meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Interior, the issue of the implementation of beach use plans and the number occupied by sunbeds and umbrellas was raised, on the occasion of the decision of the Municipalities of Free Famagusta to rent 10% in hotel complex .

Eleni Mavrou: "To the Attorney General and the Audit Office the issue with the beaches"

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs, Eleni Mavrou, stated that there are clear violations of the legislation, which not only is not implemented but is being violated. He went on to say that the legislation on beaches stipulates that only 50% of the beach is covered with cots so that everyone can enjoy a public good, while he clarified that the Commission will contact the Audit Office and the Attorney General.

Andreas Vyras: "There is logic in pre-rental"

As stated by the President of the Association of Municipalities Andreas Vyras, everyone has the right to access the beach as he wishes and on the other hand there is the issue of pre-rent by some Municipalities, ie that they make some agreements with some hotels that as he mentioned, there is a logic.

For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni claims that the legislation is observed to the letter and that the goal of the decision of the local authorities is the preservation and enrichment of the offered tourist product.

Mayor of Paralimni: "Only 10% has been granted"

The Mayor of Paralimni in his turn clarified that where there are currently around 600 beds, 60 have been granted. So there are 540 beds free for use by the public. There is also 50% of the beach, it is free for use by the public said.

The focus of the debate in the Parliament was also the Central Committee of Beaches, which the President characterized as a Committee with responsibilities but without possibilities.

The Chairman of the Central Beach Committee Loizos Loizou stated that the Central Beach Committee unfortunately only has the power to do so to approve these use plans while he pointed out that the committee is not functioning as it should or as some would envision it working and played an essential role.

At the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior, the issue of water sports was discussed, as well as the transfer of responsibilities of the Central Committee of Beaches to the Ministry of Interior or the Ministry of Tourism.
