With the revival of Easter customs, the rich program of events organized by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia continued on Easter Monday as part of the Traditional Culture Festival "Voices and Memories" from April 9 to 30, 2025 and is under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Culture.
Dancers and musicians took the audience on a journey through Paralimni's history and tradition, reviving the forgotten custom of the "Traoullarides" who roamed the neighborhoods of Paralimni during the days of Lambri asking for red eggs and flaounes, which they then sold to pay for the orchestra at the party they were throwing.
The events were organized within the framework of the St. George's Fair, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The program began with a skating performance in the city's central streets with the dancers of the Cultural Workshop "Para ti Limni", who then took the audience on a journey through the Cypriot and Greek landscape with an excellent music and dance performance accompanied by the traditional group "Nomades".
The ensembles of the Metropolitan Church of St. George, the Paralimni Youth Council and the Paralimni Youth Association Volleyball Academies participated in the festival.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia thanked and congratulated all the participants who, as he mentioned, contribute substantially to the preservation and dissemination of the traditional identity of the region and our place.
An exhibition of Traditional Professions was presented at the venue with Ppalouze, Basketry, Traditional Chair Tying, Woodcarving, Weaving, Basketry (basket) and Smilie, while the traditional "Kalyfes of Lambri" with ofto kleftiko and loukoumades were revived.
Early in the afternoon, traditional games were held in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Church of St. George.
The events take place within the framework of the Traditional Culture Festival "Voices and Memories" organized by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia in collaboration with the Cultural Academy of Agios Epiphanios from April 9 to 30, 2025. Admission to all Festival events is free.
As part of the Festival, an exhibition curated by the Cultural Academy "Agios Epiphanios" with memories of Easter customs in Paralimni and the connection with Saint George is open at the Museum of the Church of Saint Anne. Admission to the exhibition is free (Monday - Saturday 09:00-13:00) and will remain open until November 30, 2025.
The Festival is under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and supported by the International Council of Folklore Festival and Folk Art Organizations (CIOFF).
