The Police arrested four people today, after the arrival this morning, in the province of Famagusta, of a boat carrying 60 migrants.
The four arrested persons are being investigated for the offenses of assisting third-country nationals to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally, with intent and with the aim of making a profit, of illegally entering the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and of transporting a person by sea in an unsafe or overloaded vessel.
The boat was spotted around 5.25am. in the area of Agia Triada, in the province of Famagusta. There were 60 people on board, of which 40 were men, 7 were women and 13 were minors. Two of the women, due to pregnancy, were taken to Famagusta General Hospital for treatment.
From the examinations carried out by the Police, testimony was secured against four persons, who were on board the boat, regarding the above offences. They are two 20-year-olds, a 22-year-old and a 33-year-old, against whom judicial arrest warrants were issued and they were arrested, to facilitate investigations.
After completing the examinations, the remaining passengers of the boat were transferred to the Pournara Migrant Reception Center.
